Every minute of an open line is more drywall. The shut-off comes before the phone call, and in most East Valley houses it’s in one of two places.
Shut off the water before you call anyone, including us. In most East Valley homes that’s either the angle stop right at the fixture, or the main shut-off where the supply enters the house: commonly in a box near the front hose bib or on the garage wall by the softener loop. If you can’t find it, the city’s meter box at the curb has a valve. Then call. Water damage compounds every minute the line is open.

Shut off the water
Fixture first if it’s one fixture. The angle stop under the sink or behind the toilet turns clockwise. If it’s a burst line or you can’t tell, go to the main. Street pressure in the East Valley is usually 50 to 80 psi, so an open line moves a lot of water fast.
Kill power to the water heater
If the heater is the thing leaking, switch off its breaker, or set a gas unit's control to Pilot or Off. An electric element that keeps firing in a draining tank destroys itself in minutes.
Open a low faucet and get things off the floor
Opening the lowest tap in the house drains the standing pressure in the lines toward it. Move boxes and anything absorbent off the wet floor before it wicks.
Photograph it before you clean it up
Two minutes of photos and a short video, timestamped, before you mop. If this becomes an insurance claim, that’s the evidence, and nobody ever regrets having taken it.
What’s genuinely an emergency, and what can wait until morning.
Being honest about this saves you the after-hours premium. Some of these shouldn’t wait. Several of them can.
Water is entering the structure. Shut the main and call. Everything else on this list is less urgent than this one.
Waste coming up a floor drain, a tub, or a toilet is a contamination problem as well as a plumbing one. Stop using every drain in the house until someone looks.
A tank leaking from the shell is failing, not fixable. Kill the power or gas, shut its cold inlet, and call. In a garage installation this usually stays contained. In an interior closet it doesn’t.
Leave the house, then call Southwest Gas at (877) 860-6020 from outside. They come free and they come fast. A plumbing contractor is the second call, not the first.
Uncomfortable, not urgent. Morning rates are meaningfully lower than 11pm rates and the outcome is identical.
A single slow fixture is a scheduled visit. If every drain in the house is slow at once, that’s the main line and it moves up the list.

Do East Valley plumbers charge more after hours?
Yes, essentially everywhere, and that includes us. Nights, weekends and holidays carry a premium over standard rates. We tell you ours before we drive out. If the problem is genuinely contained (no hot water, one slow drain) waiting until morning costs you less and changes nothing about the repair, and we’ll say so on the phone rather than sell you the callout.
Where is the main water shut-off in an East Valley house?
Most commonly in a small box in the ground near the front hose bib, or on the garage wall near the water heater and softener loop in post-2000 construction. Turn it clockwise. If you can’t find or free it, there’s a valve in the city meter box at the curb. A meter key or a pair of pliers usually turns it. Find yours now, before you need it.
How fast can you actually get here?

Should I use a form or call for an emergency?
Call. A form is slower than a phone and an emergency is exactly the case where that gap matters. The booking form is for jobs that can be scheduled.
My water heater is leaking: do I need it replaced?
It depends where from. Water at the temperature-and-pressure relief valve or a fitting is often a repair. Water seeping from the bottom seam of the tank itself means the tank has failed and it’s a replacement. Here, hard water accelerates that: scale on the tank floor is what shortens a heater’s life in the valley.
